Kanye vs 50 Cent: Who Shall Prevail?

‘Ye versus Fiddy. Chicago versus Queens. Gangsta versus….not gangsta…

With two of the biggest names in hip-hop releasing albums on the same day, comparisons and speculations are unavoidable. You may have heard about it, one of the biggest music rivalries of recent times: Kanye West versus 50 Cent. Both rappers recently released their new albums on Tuesday , September 11th. What started off as just a coincidence soon escalated into a highly publicized rap battle. Only, unlike those of the past, guns and dissing of hometowns have hardly been on the agenda. Instead, it’s all about the Benjamins, and for 50 Cent, keeping himself in business. Recently, the rapper stated that, "If Kanye West sells more records than me on September 11, I'll no longer [perform] music. I'll write music and work with my other artists, but I won't put out any more solo albums."

And it looks as if he’ll have to do just that, that is, if he’s planning on sticking to his word. While his album, Curtis, has moved 691,000 units as of September 18, Kanye’s Graduation sold 957,000 copies in the first six days following its release. Will Fiddy really quit the music biz? It seems as if he might; he has already cancelled his promotional European tour due to “unforeseen circumstances”. Could this be ‘unforeseen’ as in his album isn’t doing as great as he thought it would? He had every reason to believe that Curtis would kill Graduation in sales; his last release, The Massacre sold over four million copies in its first year, while Kanye’s Late Registration comes in far behind with 2.8 million to date. But many fans, not just of hip-hop, but of music in general are saying that Kanye West has a newer, more progressive sound, using synthesizers, piano and electric guitars and sampling songs such as techno band, Daft Punk’s ‘Harder, Better, Faster Stronger’, but Fifty keeps on doing the same thing: hardcore, street, gangster rap. Which by looking at his current sales figures, isn’t appealing to the masses as much as it used to. So while 50 Cent may be ‘laughing to the bank with this’, Kanye is going to be laughing louder and with way more ‘this’ in his pockets.

Elevate Film and Music Festival 9/15

Ok so, this blogger had to go to a film festival with their dad because he directed a music video for it. Said blogger was not informed of how fucking awesome the entire thing was going to be.

Held at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles, The Elevate film and music festival was 'uplifting people' and 'changing the world' or wahtever. I was excited because the entire theme was WAY Panic! At the disco. They had circus type performers mixed in with the crowd as they filed in or waited to get their tickets. A zebra woman on stilts, winged crazy dudes, and ring masters all danced and flipped around as the fest-goers sippped their Vodka and Tonics.

A semi-hipster event for sure. Of course no one had infoormed me of that beforehand so i wore a mildly cool outfit. But everyone else seemed to have known, and dressed for it. There were people from a hippie commune in Topanga, CA, where my dad shot the video. They actually kind of blended in with the dancers....

It was all pretty crazy at first. Then things were a little less awesome when the event started. i mean, seeing my dad's video up on the projecter at the KODAK THEATER where they hold the OSCARS, was awesome. BUt the event was put on in part by Agape Church, which is this place that scares the shit out of me, its so cult-like. But that's not something i should talk about, in case they come hunt me down or some crazy shit like that. Al i can say is: The Secret...yeah thats their stuff. And their 'reverend' dude, he's seriously got a cult following.....Stopping now. Before the secret agape police come and catch my ass. JUST KIDDING....hehe

But yeah, so the films and videos were good. Maybe if i can find a copy of my dad's i'll post it. The other entries were short films, documentaries, and commericals. All wwer pretty good. there was one particularly funny one that was called 'The Rub of Attraction', which if you are familiar with The Secret, is a play on 'The Law of Attraction'. The short was kind of dissing the secret, voicing most people's beefs and uncertainties about it. Then in the end it proved that it was all true...ish. What the secret is saying.

And then there were mini-documentaries n stuff. Did u know that the academy awards are the only awards allowed to be given out in the Kodak Theater. You can hold events there, but no one is allowed to give out any kind of award in that building except for the academy. How....interesting is that?

Then after we went to the after pparty upstairs. Cuz we were special and all. But it was really jsut a meet n greet type thing. So no flashing lites and awesome music. : l

So it was pretty lame. And i was exhausted.

so then we left. And went home, where i slept.

annnndddd my only pic from the after party!:
I'll post other pix later.

PWN bitch

Ohhhhhh what now, Fiddy? Kanye's album totally kicks your album's ass! Check the iTunes reviews, sucka. Nobody likes your 'Ayo Technology' crap.

And Kanye is keeping with the times. He knows that indie music is way freaking better than whatever the hell everyone else is trying to do. I don't really have the energy to rant on about how great kanye is and how nto great 50 is. So yeah. But uhhhhhh, Stronger is lke the only hip-hop song rite now that when i hear it, i don't cringe. Unless i'm at a dance or something. Because even 'Ay Bay Bay' sounds good when ur having fun.

Play nice, kids

Hello friend(s)!

And haters. Haha, we're making so many friends! :)

S'all good though. Really, that one hate comment we got really did warm my heart. Please, anyone happening to hate our ramblings, please do leave hateful comments. We deeply apreciate it.

In other news, I and a couple other friends just saw the movie, Stardust, and it was pretty good. Oddly funny at times, too. Dude, I totally wasn't expecting Robert Deniro's character to be gay.

Yeah, gay!

It was hilarious. Cross dressing, the whole bit. I quite enjoyed it. And also, the main guy, Rupert Everett, I believe. He was oddly more attractive when his hair got longer. But at some points, he wasn't at all, so yah, I donno what was up with that. His father when he was younger, though, wasn't bad on the eyes at all.

Hm, I'm getting a little carried away with this.

Also, I have no earthly idea, but suddenly My Chemical Romance sounds so good to me. Like ... well, not any different, but I like it a whole lot more for some reason. It's very odd. Not so much their first album, but Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge. Even songs that I didn't much care for, such as "The Jetset Life is Gonna Kill You" are my favorites.

What is wrong with me?

I already liked them, but man. ha.

At the moment I am listening to a CD I borrowed from Aria, Writers Block, by Peter Bjorn and John. It really is an excellent record. Like smoggy summer in the 60s/70s, or something. Which sounds gross, but that's what first comes to mind. Anyways, it's really good, and definetly worth checking out.

Random Thought of the Day:
Have you ever noticed how some guys who wear skinny jeans have, like, REALLY skinny legs? And you can't look away, really, cuz it just hits you like *bam!* "Hey! They have REALLY skinny legs!"

Daily Song: "Immagrant Song" - Led Zeppelin

random kicks

Ok in the past year I've been on 3 big kicks. Well maybe two cuz I don't think Avenged Sevenfold kinda counts. But anyways, lately i have been obsessed with Fall Out Boy (that one is coming to an end) and Linkin Park. Already I have all three of Linkin Park's albums on my mp3 player and I know all the words to Fall Out Boy songs. I know it sounds pathetic now but hey what can i say. Shit happens *shrugs*.

Hey I think we're getting famous, we already have one hate comment.
Yay go publicity.
Aria took care of the idiot though, she beat me to it...darn.

Hey,Mikey...she likes it.

Mwhaha my blog title sucks. Hard. But anyways. I officially <3 Michael Cera. I saw Superbad last night and it was awesome. HE was awesome. And cute...and funny...and sweet.....*sigh* It was like, it was funny but you jsut feel bad for him, his character Evan. he was just a really nice guy, and he kept getting sucked into this crap. lol. And Jonah Hill was great too.

But even thoough I'm totally in love with Michael Cera (you should be too if you have any sense!) the best guy int he whole thing was Christopher Mintz-Plasse a.k.a Mclovin. he was so gangsta. Hahaha. Booya motha'fucka'!

Reverse

Lots of music videos are reversed now. Like a rewinded tape thing. Mute math's 'Typical', Linkin Park's 'Bleed It Out (i think its that song), and CSS's 'Alala'. And i bet there's more.

A new trend.....

something to do: Go flash mobbing. be cool and different. make sure you wear a rambo scarf; it makes everything more interesting.

scene vs. ....Un-scene

I don't know.

Yes, aspects of the Scene bother me. A lot. Such as the whole 'i just wanna be loved' ideal and stuff. You know. But at the same time, as i atch The Academy Is... on MTV:Live, i get momentary chills. Now this can eiither mean that TAI is one of the best bands ever (which i can almost gaurantee they aren't) or I still like this Emo music stuff. (Which to be clear, i never said i didn't. I've just expressed my strong dislike for the SCENE itself).

But bands like Fall Out Boy, TAI, Cobra Starship, Paramore, Panic! At the Disco...basically anyone on Fueled By Ramen Records.....they're still good. But why do thy have to be icons of such a stupid, stupid thing. And then it's like emo fans are so hypocritical because when their favorite band gets popular they're like, 'ugghhhh i liked em first!' and then start bashing a band that they were in love with (yes in love with. Have you ever seen an emo fan gush? You should have been around when i ws in the height of my fob/fbr phase/craze...or just go on Buzznet, prime observation grounds)

Indie fans are like this to some extent too. But it makes sense because indie is a genre based on how unknown the band is. Like they're not indie anymore if they're no. 1 on TRL. Or if they get signed to like.....Atlantic Records or something. Their sound may still be of the genre, but TRUE indieness is lost. But look, it's not going to stop me from listening to them.

Hm. William Beckett's teeth are slightly crooked. Like one overlaps the other i think. That's sorta nice, that he's not perfect in a very human way. Whereas Pete wentz isn't perfect in an extremely wounded 'i want everyone to know how un-perfect i am because it's so cool to have people hate you' sort of way. Seriously, haven't you noticed how he always throws in little coded comments about himself that are self-depreciating in a highly annoying way. it's kind of like, dude, you've made your millions so stop trying to act like you're still a lowly chi-town kiddie and buck up. You're famous now, deal with it and stop being so.......augh.

I mean, Patrick Stump has the talent in the band, but you don't see him going around being all overly-modest. In fact, Pete should take a page out of his book - or whatever that saying is - and just NOT SAY ANYTHING AT ALL.

that would work very well, methinks.

But right, i started out talking about pros and cons of the scene right? Basically it's a double edged sword. Some of the bands are good lots are shitty and whine about their ex-girlfriends and how maybe they'd cut their wrists together or something. I don't know. The fans are extreme and like to think that they know their idols better than anyone else. And the whole thing is vastly over-dramatic.

So yeah. I was pondering this as i watched TAI and got those aformentioned chills. something to think about, kids.

Oh my god i just saw a KFC commercial and they showed a biscuit and i swear to god it was the tastiest looking thing i've ever seen in my life.

ok bye now. I'm starving.

Band to Watch: Freddy and the Dials

Went purevoluming today. Found some good shite in my first 5 seconds on the site.

The good thing? Purevolume's featured artist, Freddy and the Dials from New York, NY. they have a catchy pop-rock sound. Reminds me of Rooney a bit. Has that same vibe. Key track so far: Something About That Girl. Sirius radio's hit station played this song, and the band was/is unsigned. So that's pretty big. call in and request it if you want.

They have a cute little billboard about themselves and what/who freddy is. Plus the guys in the band are pretty attractive, if i do say so myself. So they've got that going for them for sure. But..it's about the music!

Hiiiiiii Skooooollll (orientation)

So today was my hi-skool orientation. It was alright i guess. Hung out with people i already knew and met a few nice girls. (if you're reading this and you're not part of my 'inner-circle' I go to an all-girls school.) And it was really funny because when i walked in everyone i knew was all spread out across the auditorium. So i didn't know who to sit by. Thankfully though, i started talking to one of them and the others got up and went somewhere so i could just sit behind the girl i was talking to. Then my friend came and sat next to me there.

Then we had to do a friendship workshop. Which to me was somewhat pointless....And then we did a 'nuts-and-bolts' one about the schedule, uniforms, and spirit-week. Which is supposed to be crazy-awesome. An i had lunch with my 'big sister' and her friends. They were cool.

i got my locker......i hung out some more....

Oh and i found out taht MICHELLE THIS IS FOR YOU i could go to the dance at la salle. If someone gives me a pass *cough* I NEED THAT PASS! but yeah. Tomorrow is the ropes course thing where we go on trees. = /. And today i have cross counttry. Fun.

So yeah.

First Day of High School

It wasn't all fantastic and it wasn't all bad. It wasn't like high school musical (thank god).

Anyways, the hallways were so congested!! This freaking mob of girls just stood in the middle of the hall saying stupid crap like, "OMG Becky, I haven't seen you all summer, like OMG!" So I'm just standing there like, "Uh you guys, I need to get to my locker."

If you guys think they just stopped and let me pass, you are SO wrong.

My first class was English 1 Honors. Since we were all freshmen, we were deathly silent. You know, the kind of silent were your at a funeral, only without the wailing of over dramatic people.

That whole day people kept asking me if I was a freshman. I'm not sure if I looked like a freshman or people thought i was a sophomore. It was a cool day though =]

I also saw my junior high ex, Kenny (well i dont consider him an ex, cuz we weren't even going out). He looked lonely and we didn't talked. We just stared at each other, with me giving a small, toothless grin that just said, "uhh hey," in a very shy way.

Did that make sense? Oh well if it doesn't, I never do make sense.

Well that was my day.

ciao,
Michelle

My Ears Are Bleeding

Someone save us from this treachery. This...disgrace to humanity. Please, Jesus Cristo!

Britney Spears' new song. Or demo. Either way it's fucking crap. Is on the internet. It's dumb, it's trying too hard, but what else were you expecting? I mean, really. She's done. That woman needs to go find a nice place to live in the countryside, settle down, and leave the rest of us the hell alone.

Her new song - the title of which i don't know and frankly don't care about. It's not going to change it's lack of...goodness - is a slow loping attempt at a you-left-me-please-come-back-let's-have-sex song complete with chimes and a weird latin guitar bit towards the end. She's trying WAY too hard. It's completely obvious. Her voice wobbles in an annoying mono-tone way that's totally pathetic and nothing like the perfected wobblyness of, say, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Not that she was aiming for that. She was probably shooting for a Christina Aguilera type deal. Which so didn't work.

Possibly the funniest thing about this song to me is when she whines, 'Everyday I sit and kneel and pray: Oh sweet love can I get some?'

What kind of prayer is THAT????

It's the dumbest shit ever. Almost. If you gave me some time i could come up with something else. But like, this piece of retard-o-ness even has one of those R&B-ish phone calls in the middle of it, a la Usher's Confessions, where Spears rambles on about how she wants the guy (probably Federline if you want to go personal or whatever) to come home soon and 'oh, can you get some of - yeah that' from the store. Thanks.

THANKS BRITNEY. I THINK I'M READY TO GO JUMP OFF THAT CLIFF NOW.

Why the industry and media continues to feed her cause like this is beyond me. It's sick.

ugh. Now I'm going to go soothe my ears by blasting Bright Eyes or Feist or something equally as nice and GOOD.

Kanye vs. 50 Cent: Who will prevail?

Personally, i think that Kanye is gonna beat the shit out of 50's album. He's more innovative, and I mean, Daft Punk. The dude sampled DAFT PUNK. And what awesomeness has 50 Cent sampled? I'm pretty sure none, and if he has...then Kanye's totally reigns over it with his cool stuff.

So, September 11, they both drop. Kanye's Graduation and 50 Cent's Curtis. The battle begins.....

Well, either way. It's gonna be a big day for hip hop. Which seemed to be slowly, painfully, unwillingly...dying. But maybe as it took it's last breath, it realized it had something to live for. A renewed hope. I'm not a big hip-hop fan, but if we can get out of this rut in which songs like Ay Bay Bay and Crank Dat are popular, then maybe, just maybe I'll change my mind.

All i know for now though, is that I am SERIOUSLY loving Kanye West's cover art (above right).

Also. Rilo Kiley's new album is up and streaming on their Myspace. I haven't finished listening to it yet, but so far it's interesting. Really far from their other stuff, especially The Moneymaker. That song is just...interesting. Not sure if i really like it or not. We'll see.

On another, more pathetic note, I watched High School Musical Two. And i can honestly say that it was not great. I had been really excited, for reasons beyond my own knowledge (*cough* Zac Efron*cough* Rolling Stone Cover *cough*) but it was dissapointing. There were a few good songs, well, OK songs. And the acting was far from amazing. And, this made me laugh, Zac Efron sort of seemed like...today's version of John Travolta circa his Grease days. Just the whole musical thing and the singing and dancing...and being supposedly hot (supposedly being the key word in John Travolta's case. Hot, in Zac's. Hehe) But also in this one scene he had on all black and it was TOTALLY reminiscent of Grease. And i kept having flashes of the Summer Nights sequence in my head.....It was odd. But yeah. I don't think I'll be watching HSM 2 more than say....three times? Max. Seriously, it's sad, but the only reason i was even watching really was because of Efron.

Did you know that 1 in 3 teenage girls in America have a poster of him? That's kind of sick...but at the same time, I can understand why....Just look:

It's kind of small. But you get the idea.

Ugh. I reluctantly sort of like the Jonas Brothers' music.....They're really not that bad. It's unfortunate that they've got some thing going on with Disney. It lowers their appeal majorly.

It's similar with Paramore. Ever since MTV swooped down and started putting their faces up on screens in times square and showing them playing acoustic versions of Misery Business during The Hills' credits - It really happened, no joke - I've been sort of like....'ew'. I want them to do well. But i hate how MTV turns stuff into gross commercialized stuff. I mean, kids from my old school who act like rock is something t avoid completely, have Misery Business on their Myspaces....Ugh it's so......not cool. I have no way to describe it. Whatever though. If they like it. they like it....nothing i can do.

Alrighty, enough whining about the media and popularity, I'm gonna hit le sack.

ciao, Aria

Sneaky Bush Administration

omg, the bush administration passed a rule that soon, mexican trucks can go all the way thru the US to anywhere!!! like, posted it in the Federal Register, so no one would really pay attention to it, and when Congress is on vacation. that's like having a party while ur parents are away, basically.

anyways, its frickin bull. i mean srsly, truck drivers work hard. they haf2 drive ALL day, only stopping for meals or wutever, drop off ther crap, and drive back. and i mean, this isn't driving down teh street we're talking here. this is across the freaking country! it's definetly not gonna benefit us very much, except for that small slice of people who want the cheap labor. truck drivers will lose jobs, and its not good for national security, i mean WTF.

i'm not usually so political, but it struck me as kind of odd. the bush administration totally avoiding the media like this. i mean, geez.

Random title as this has nothing to do with DJs, except for the fact that when i walked into Forever 21 with Skitz this afternoon, Atlantic to Interzone was playing. Which has made me very happy.

We went shopping today and ate at Johnny Rockets. Mmm. But yeah, shopping. Went to H&M, Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, and Barnes&Noble. I had $60 so WOOOHOO i bought loads of stuff. Well loads to me. I got some blue skinny pants and a shirt with glow sticky things on it at H&M, an awesomely bright track jacket at Forever 21 (a late b-day gift), Ummm lightning bolt earrings that are super hard to get in my ears so i'm still working on that, a pair of green aviators that are gonna be my new thing i bet, A Would You Rather book at UO, and a copy of Under The Radar magazine. It was great success *borat voice*

There's this festival happening September 29 out here in L.A, the Neighborhood Festival with Mickey Avalon, Spank Rock, DJ AM, Crystal Castles, Shit Disco, Steve Aoki, Young Americans, and lots of other awesome artists. So if anyone ever reads this and you're in LA that day, head on down; it sounds cool. Venue and stuff will be announced soon, methinks.

Also, my new laptop is retarded. It turned off and won't turn back on. But it's totally not my fault i didn't do ANYTHING to it. I just have seriously bad luck with electronics. *grumbling*

Hey, here's an idea. Maybe (talking to michelle and skitz) We could take some pix of our awesomely awesome clothesez. Not showing our face, ok, skitz the paranoid one. But yeah i have the urge to be awesome and it's my only idea right now. WEll, it was either that or get our keyboardist to start wearing some awesome clothes. Young Wild Things and The Idiocy of iTunes

Fall Out Boy has just announced their Fall U.S arena tour. They'll kick off in Ohio this October and end in December in... a place i can't remember right now. Supporting them will be, Gym Class Heroes, Plain White T's, and Cute is What We Aim For.

Ok so, number one. Young Wild Things, what they're calling the tour....is a little bit, i don't know. Well what i mean is, half the band is almost thirty. They're hardly young. And wild....well, I'm not going to be the one to make that judgement. They said that they named it after the children's book, Where the Wild Things Are. But still, it's a bit unfitting. And then there's this whole thing with Pete WEntz where he wants to petition to get Tey Zonday to open for them. I'm gonna lie and say that i know who Tey Zonday is, but apparently he's big enough that Pete Wentz feels the need to do this. Or maybe he's just being Pete. Who knows.

On the one hand, as a fan of Fall out Boy, I'm excited for this tour. But on the other hand....why arenas, guys? Weren't you happy with smaller venues? I mean, the L.A forum was NICE. Not too big, not too small. Now, i bet, tickets are gonna be way more expensive than they were for Honda Civic Tour. And I dont' think that's exactly fair. Now is it?

Whatever, dude. They're still getting my $$$ (or my parent's $$). My little brotehr wants to go; so I'm in. As long as I don't have to choose between YWT and Arctic Monkeys at the Palladium. THAT is priority

________________

iTunes makes me angry. A lot angry.

I LOVE the U.K iTunes store. They have Cajun Dance Party, Kate Nash, AND The Pigeon Detectives!! But the U.S store *shakes head gravely*. Sucks. ASS.

Not totally. But enough to make me wish i lived in England (which i was already wishing, but that's beside the point) and not in stupid America where we don't get to have Mumm-ra OR Reverend and the Makers. What's this about, hhmmm?

I think we should have one collective iTunes store. And they can just have all the same music but the different currencies based on where you live. Soort of the same as it is now, but the music wouldn't differ from store to store.

you know?

But then also it's like, supposedly the Kate Nash album was released in the U.S on Tuesday. And is it in the store? psh. Hell no. So you see, they're like not keeping up, or lying, or screwing up or SOMETHING. And it pisses me off. Because i want my music. Now.

Well I'm off to spend some money in the dreaded store of non-updating doom.

toodles, Aria

It really is. Er, at least according to this shirt. Which, mind you, does not include pedaphiles. But yeah, I thought that shirt was sorta cool. {nerdyshirts.com}

Anywho, as if mere celebrity wasn't enough, Scarlett Johansson is working on her very own album. Yes, that's right. She even made a fairly recent appearance at Coachella. Now, I haven't heard her singing yet, so I can't make any judgements. But I don't particularly like it when celebrities sign record deals. I mean, most of the time, all it does is steal the spotlight from talented, hardworking musicians.

In other news, The Wombats are finally coming to the US! Well, in digital spirit. According to NME.com, The Wombats' debut EP is due for release next month, which features singles, "Lost in The Post" and "Moving To New York" and a CSS remix of "Kill The Director". Cool.

Also, Pete Doherty supposedly is working on kicking his drug issues. Good for him. Whether it's for himself, for the sake of his freedom *as in, not going to jail*, or to get Kate Moss back. I hope it works out.

Dandy-ness

Welcome to our blog, peoples of the world. We've moved from freewebs, to our own domain, to...this. It's a somewhat temporary arrangement. That is, we're here until our host renews her domain. Or maybe longer...we'll see how it goes.

We used to be shootdownthestars, but now we've changed that to Dandify Me. Mainly because, if i can speak for all three of us, we just got tired of that name. (personally it got to be a little TOO scene for my taste...) But yeah. So now you can find us here. At Dandify Me.

^ Now that right there, THAT was a dramatic opening. But i can't write this without being dramamtic because i am EXTREMELY bored, so ... yeah.

Who here likes music? *blogging peeps wave their hands eagerly* Oh, yeah, awesomeness, me - US- too. My favorite band right now......would have to be....(Jesus Cristo, there's so many to choose from!)

Well right now, what would be heavily rotated on my iPod if it wasn't being a complete dumbass IS: The Horrors, Jack Penate, Bright Eyes, Arctic Monkeys, Tokyo Police Club, Klaxons, and if i list anymore it wouldn't count as being heavily rotated.
